For one, almonds are 20% protein. If you eat an ounce of almonds a day (about 24 nuts) you will get about 5.6 grams of protein. They are also rich in Vitamin E and magnesium and contain calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium and zinc.

On the whole, including almonds in one’s regular diet, increases memory, gives sufficient nourishment to the body and boosts immunity power of the body. Almonds supply plenty of vitamins and calcium to the body, apart from preventing certain chronic disorders and reducing the LDL levels in the blood. Sweet almonds lubricate the skin and the microcirculatory channels and according to Ayurveda they support all the seven body tissues, especially the reproductive tissue.

Due to their heavy quality, you need a strong digestive fire to metabolize them.   When soaked in water over night and peeled in the morning (discard soaking water, pour boiling water over, pop almonds out of skin) they are easier to digest as the skin can irritate the intestinal walls. If your digestive fire is very low, strengthen it first before you eat almonds.

Compared to all other nuts, almonds are not as susceptible to rancidity due to their protective, ruff, and brown skin.  Nevertheless it is recommended to store them in the fridge as all other nuts and seeds.
